SEVA Services – The art of serving from the heart

Massage as Therapy

As a Bike Tour leader and Client Services Coordinator with Vermont Country Cyclers (1987-89), I had the opportunity to meet a lot of massage therapists throughout the state of VT. They were healthy, kind, self-aware and mostly independent women who served as positive role models for me. Based on this experience, I set out to become one myself and started my studies with Bob Onne, a master Acupressure massage therapist and teacher in Montpelier. We met weekly for three years as a small group of women learning everything he had to share.

At the end of 1991, my house burned to the ground and I went to the Kripalu Center for a month, to both personally heal from this great loss and participate in their massage therapy certification program. I returned a year later to be an assistant teacher for the program.

My first job as a massage therapist was at the prestigious Ritz Carlton in Aspen Colorado and the Warner Movie house (1992-94). I remember being nervous when I gave my first massage, especially since they charged over $100/massage! When the kind, older gentleman told me it was the best massage he had ever had, I sensed I had found the right field for me.

I proceeded to work on a movie set (Jumanji) in British Columbia and was honored to have the privilege of working on Robin Williams!

After that I moved to the Bay Area where I worked at the San Francisco Marriott until my private practice grew enough to sustain me, along with my other work as the Communications Coordinator for a wetland restoration partnership protecting habitat for birds and other wildlife. Along the way I earned a certificate in NeuroMuscular Reprogramming (from Jocelyn Olivier and her now closed school, Alive and Well in San Anselmo, CA), a Hypnotherapy license from the Alchemy Institute, and started incorporating my understanding of Parts Work, based on the teachings of Dick Schwartz and Internal Family Systems into my work.

Currently, I mostly work in private home settings, specializing in deep relaxation and integrative massage, combining my extensive training, years of experience and loving presence. I particularly enjoy working with older bodies and those who value and know the importance of self care.
